Becca, Inshelyo

The Sogen Laboratories package came on a bright and early morning, a labwood box with standard robot transportation bands of corrugated cardboard wrapped around it, the Sogen Laboratories logo stamped on all 6 sides. It sat on Adenai's front porch undisturbed for 3 hours, 45 minutes, and 28 seconds, at which point Adenai hurriedly lugged the heavy box into his house, shutting the door as nonchalantly as possible. A silly thing to attempt to do, as the Sogen Laboratories logo had been on display to any neighbors up early enough.

The box contained the model K3-N47 with ai add-ons to that particular model's already strong hardware for the mental capacity of the pleasure robot. The K3s were old by now, last last year's model, but still serviceable. The newer models were lighter, a bit more flexible, and, though Sogen Laboratories would like to hide it, more fragile. The K3s were the last to full focus on the human emulation factor of appeal of owning a sex bot. After that they leaned into the robotic elements, limbs that could rotate 360°, a robot that could extend itself to twice it's height and with built in self color changing skin cellules.

The N47 build family of sex bots was the most developed in computing power, and human affect mimicking, the trade off being a higher power consumption and price tag. There was a promotional release of O11 build family of sex bots a couple years after the N47s came out, as a last hurrah for the K3 models, a raffle was put out for the prototype O12, which was rumored to have a stronger ai than the N47s, but there was no hope of Adenai getting his hands on one of them.

Adenai had purchased his K3-N47 sex bot as a graduation gift to himself. He had graduated in the top of his class for artificial intelligence, computer engineering, history of Robotics, neuroscience, and neurology. And had registered for the IMM (Inshelyo Mechanized Military) draft consideration. It was only a matter of time until they picked him up, and then it would be government contracts and big mechs until he retired. The more fanciful side of Adenai hoped for covert operations and espionage, but he knew that it was probably for the best that he didn’t encounter it. The sex bot was to be some in-house fun that cost nothing more than power and the occasional fluid additive packet, after the initial expense.

The money for the university (Inshemer University of Sciences, IUS) had come from grants earned in primary school for his obvious intelligence. They had paid for most of his classes and housing while he was studying. The remainder of the class cost was covered by some student loans, and manufacturing some novel solutions for problems various professors had. A coffee maker that could read the expression of the True Artificial Intelligence professor, dispensing the appropriate amount of caffeine into the drink. A functional mechanical tail for the son of the Aethersphere Programming professor. The last one had earned him a third rate, but functional, material fabricator, which, when supplied with the requisite materials, could print in plastic, glass, and metal, or cut plastic, glass, or metal into desired shapes. It was the oldest model still supported.

The money for the K3-N47 unit was supplied from his own savings from jobs he had worked as a kid. Workforce experience was a required credit for graduation at his primary school, and he’d been fortunate enough to work on of the better paying jobs, product inspection for microchips. The school got a cut of the paycheck, but Adenai had gotten to keep most of it, putting it into savings. Between then and now the [INSERT CURRENCY HERE] had become a lot stronger, allowing for an overseas order from Sogen Laboratories to be all the more viable. Sogen was a Mahes company, a strong ally of Inshelyo.

Adenai cheerily sawed through the cardboard bands and cracked open the wooden crate. He could have gotten any kind of robot, either way he’d have them help around the house, but he partially justified his purchase of a sex bot because he planned on tinkering with it’s ai. The ai-development had largely happened separately from standard servant robot-ai, more focused on social acuity in less complex ways than the ai-human bridging fielders. The labwood crate gave way to reveal the dark purple and teal paperboard box, with a thin plastic sheet revealing the contents, packaged optional add-ons in plastic bags pressed against the cellule skin, eyes closed.
